Shared Cost Sidewalk Program

The Shard Cost Sidewalk Program is now open to participants.  However, there have been a few changes to the program. 

First, the unit cost charged to property owners has increased to $3 per square foot.  This marks the first price increase in five years.  The City will continue to pay the entire cost of ADA ramps.  Senior citizens and those with disabilities will continue to receive a 50 percent discount.

Second, mid-block property owners will split the cost of the courtesy walk, which runs perpendicular to the main sidewalk all the way to the curb. 

Finally, owners of corner properties will be charged for the sidewalk on the non-address side of the property. 

These changes will help the City of Chicago offer this valuable program.
